The Avery Trailhead is the eastern most terminus of the LOViT trail system. This trailhead is a part of the Corps of Engineers Avery Recreation Area located below Blakely Mountain Dam.

On “The Trails” pages, the LOViT trail segments described are named for their trailhead, and each trail segment then generally runs eastward from the trailhead, with the “last” trail segment terminating at the Avery Trailhead.  See the Brady Mountain page for a description of the trail segment from Brady Mountain Road to the Avery Trailhead.

The Avery Trailhead is the perfect location for group activities on the trail, featuring ample parking for up to a hundred vehicles, flush toilets, a covered pavilion with tables, BBQ pits and potable water. This pavilion was the site for the October 28, 2014 Dedication Ceremony celebrating the completion of the originally-planned Lake Ouachita Vista Trail.

There is also fishing from the banks of the Ouachita River as it flows through Blakely Mountain Dam’s generating plant.

Group activities requiring the pavilion should be arranged through the Corps of Engineers office at 502-767-2101 Ext 3040.

From the Avery Trailhead entrance to the Kiosk at the west end of the Trail system is approximately 40-miles, not including spurs.
